You Are My Joy | No. 1

The Story

We had a day out; just the two of us. And, what a day it was! It was special to me: We went on a picnic, visited two parks, and ended the day with a movie (Nim’s Island).

For you, the best part of the day had to be sliding down the pole on your own for the first time. What a moment for you! You were so happy to have done it. No doubt anymore, you are a big boy.

For me, it was just so great to spend the day with you, doing so many fun things together. You fill my heart with such joy. I love you...forever, and ever, and always!

Story Reflection

The main photo has been one of my favorites for years—It was such a lucky shot. My camera was in hand, settings set, and Duncan just happened to look up and I just happened to press the shutter. Within 1/2 second he was gone again. He's always been pretty active.

Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good! =)

I love that this moment, the mood, the smile, the memory of carefree days at the park was something that found its way into the frame that day!

What went well: I liked how well the black-and-white photos worked with the kraft paper to create a sense of nostalgia.

What was difficult: Honestly, lining up the text to fit well with the title and the flourish was more difficult than I expected.

Biggest takeaway: How much I love the mix of strong lines and organic shapes together...I want to do more of that.

What does the above inspire for you? What does it make you think of or feel? Please share...
